What is temporary domestic staffing?

Temporary domestic staffing covers a household role needed for a defined period, specific dates or a short-term assignment. The work may cover sickness, travel, a family transition, a gap between permanent hires or another time-limited need.

“Emergency” means the household needs a faster response than usual. It does not guarantee same-day availability, remove the need for a clear role or replace medical, safeguarding or emergency services.

Do you want FDS to supply the temporary worker rather than employ them directly?

That is a different pricing route from a direct placement. It should be agreed before the assignment starts.

Agency-supplied temporary worker

You pay FDS the agreed hourly fee for every hour worked, plus travel or other expenses agreed in advance. Under the current client terms, FDS pays the temporary worker and, where appropriate, accounts for income tax and National Insurance.

Fixed-term direct placement

You employ the candidate for the agreed period and take responsibility for the employment arrangement, including pay, contract, payroll and applicable employer obligations.

The exact temporary hourly charge depends on the role and assignment and is confirmed before work begins. Compare the two pricing routes or read the current Terms and Conditions.

When the need is time-limited

Start with the reason and the exact coverage required.

A temporary request is easier to assess when the household separates essential coverage from duties that can wait.

01

Sickness or unexpected absence

Explain which existing responsibilities need immediate cover, the likely duration and whether the end date is known.

02

Travel, school holidays or visiting family

Give the itinerary, working locations, travel expectations, accommodation and the household routine during the period.

03

A gap before a permanent hire starts

Define the interim duties without assuming that the temporary person will automatically become the permanent employee.

04

A defined household transition

Examples can include a move, a return to work, newborn-focused support or a temporary change in the family schedule.

Urgency without ambiguity

A faster search depends on fewer unknowns.

Filipino Domestic Services needs enough information to identify whether the request is practical and which candidates may wish to consider it.

What changed? State why the cover is needed and which responsibilities have become uncovered.
What are the exact dates? Give the earliest start, expected finish and whether either date has flexibility.
Which duties cannot wait? Separate essential daily work from lower-priority tasks that can be paused.
What must be agreed before the start? Confirm hours, pay or charge structure, location, accommodation, travel and who supervises the work.

Temporary work can be structured in more than one way.

Filipino Domestic Services will confirm the applicable arrangement in writing before work begins.

Fixed-term direct placement

The household employs the chosen candidate for an agreed period.

The household normally takes responsibility for the contract, pay, payroll and employment obligations. The end date or fixed-term event should be recorded clearly.

Temporary worker assignment

The assignment and agency payment terms are confirmed for the period.

The written arrangement should explain the duties, hours, charge structure, supervision, expenses and how any extension or direct engagement will be handled. Published agency-supplied starting rates run from £21/hour to £30/hour depending on role.

The distinction matters. A person introduced for direct fixed-term employment is not automatically an agency worker, and a temporary worker assignment has its own written terms.

Agency-supplied hourly pricing

Current starting rates for agency-supplied household staff.

These are client charges for the agency-supplied hourly route, not the worker’s wage and not the direct-placement agency fee. The final hourly charge and any agreed travel or other expenses are confirmed before the assignment.

Choose this route when you do not want to employ the staff member directly. Availability depends on the role, location, schedule and brief, and FDS confirms the applicable assignment terms in writing before work begins. Read the current Terms and Conditions.

What a short-notice request should not assume.

Urgency changes the timeline, not the need for a safe, lawful and realistic position.

Availability

No guaranteed same-day candidate

Availability depends on the role, location, schedule, duration, requirements and whether a candidate chooses to proceed.

Checks

No automatic shortcut around assessment

The household should still interview, assess suitability, follow up references and qualifications and complete the checks required for the role.

Scope

No undefined “help with everything” brief

The role, priorities and hours must remain workable even when the position is temporary.

Emergency services

No substitute for clinical or urgent professional help

Medical, safeguarding, fire, police or other immediate emergencies require the appropriate emergency or regulated service.

From urgent brief to confirmed start

How the temporary staffing process works.

Filipino Domestic Services reviews the household’s instructions, considers candidate availability and confirms the route that applies. The household remains responsible for its own assessment and decisions.

Questions about temporary and short-notice domestic staff.

Can Filipino Domestic Services guarantee a same-day candidate?

No. Availability depends on the role, location, dates, hours, requirements and whether a suitable candidate is available and chooses to consider the position.

Which domestic roles can be temporary?

Nannies, housekeepers, nanny-housekeepers, maternity nurses, cleaners and some other clearly defined domestic roles can be temporary when the duties, schedule and duration are realistic.

What is the difference between a fixed-term placement and a temporary worker assignment?

In a fixed-term direct placement, the household normally employs the candidate for an agreed period. In a temporary worker assignment, the agency and household confirm assignment and payment terms for the period. Filipino Domestic Services will state which route applies.

Can a temporary position become permanent?

It can, but the household must notify Filipino Domestic Services and follow the applicable terms before making a direct or permanent engagement. If the requirement is becoming ongoing rather than fixed-term, compare full-time and part-time domestic staff before redefining the role.

Who completes candidate checks for a temporary direct placement?

The current client terms place responsibility on the household to assess suitability, follow up references and relevant qualifications and complete the checks required for the position.

Does “emergency staff” include medical or safeguarding emergencies?

No. The term refers here to a short-notice household staffing request. Medical, safeguarding, fire, police or other immediate emergencies require the appropriate emergency or regulated service.
